Yesterday and today we attended with other local CMAers memorials for three motorcyclists lost in a tragic and senseless accident last weekend in the desert just east of San Diego. The Saddle Tramps Motorcycle Club was celebrating their 10th anniversary as a chapter with a weekend ride to Yuma. Lots of fun stuff planned at a resort there.
An impatient driver in a gold Honda Civic decided to pass the pack at a high rate of speed and ended up in the path of an on coming Dodge Avenger. The driver of the Dodge tried to avoid the Honda and overcorrected and slammed into the pack killing four in the group including Amy and Lance Heath parents of two young boys and Tonya mother to three. Tonya's Husband Wilson is still hospitalized along with three others. The passenger in the Dodge also died. Senseless and so wrong.
Many motorcycle clubs and groups along with many other friends and associates came to pay last respects to Lance and Amy on Saturday and Tonya today. Hundreds of people came to say goodbye. Both events were heartbreaking to know four young children will be without parents. Why? Why be in such a hurry? Did the driver of the Honda make it on time--the SaddleTramps didn't!
I know many of us, including Mike and me thought about our group rides with our close and best friends and knew it could easily have been our friends and family suffering and grieving today.
Lord, we ask that You use this tragic event for good, to open the eyes of those of us who hurry where we are going, take chances, drive too fast, text, talk on our cells--what ever the distraction-remind us to just drive and pay attention.
Stuff on my mind, in my heart and in my thoughts. Things I hear from God and things I want to do for God. Figuring out what God's purpose is for me on this earth.
